Hi, I'm Hsa. I'm a Knyaw American artist based in Colorado. My drawings and paintings live inside Knyaw cultural heritage and diaspora identity; portraits of my community, landscapes of home, and moments of everyday life, made to connect me with my people, my culture, and my ancestors.
I have a love-hate relationship with art — it's on again, off again, very much a "we were on a break" situation. And I'm self-taught, which means my technique is one part contemporary drawing, one part acrylic painting, and one part YouTube tutorials at 2 am.
In January 2026, I had my debut solo exhibition, Knyaw, at Counterpath Press in Denver, with original drawings and paintings on the wall, and me in the corner, doing my best impression of someone who wasn't nervous. It did not work. Turns out people showed up anyway, and looked, and stayed. I'm still a little stunned by that, in the best way.
When I'm not in the studio, I work at a nonprofit supporting refugee and immigrant families.
I take my culture seriously. I take my community seriously. I take my art, and myself, a little less seriously — someone has to be fun at this thing.
Anywho, if you made it this far: say hi, really. I'd love to hear from you — hsa@knyawstudio.com.
